To ensure your lamp arrives at your new home in one piece, follow these steps on how to pack a lamp for moving:
To fully wrap the lamp base, burrito style, use paper padding. Wrap the extra pieces in packing paper. Fold the paper around the finial, harp and any other lamp parts and tape to secure. Place the lamp and parts in a moving box.
A 3.0 cubic foot box is the most commonly used size box for moving. This size box is perfect for smaller items such as books, lamps, and small kitchen appliances.
You can cover a lampshade with wrapping paper by tracing the lampshade onto the wrapping paper, cutting out the traced shape, and gluing it to the lampshade.
If the lamp is particularly valuable, movers may want to add an extra layer of protection by placing it in a box.
Fabric can be used to create a new look for an old lampshade. Simply wrap the fabric around the shade and secure it in place with clean-release tape. This is an easy and inexpensive way to give any room a fresh, new look.
Tall lamps should be rolled in a piece of bubble wrap about five to 10 inches longer than the lamp itself and secured with packing tape. More than one piece of bubble wrap can be used and overlapped if necessary. The entire lamp, including the top and bottom, should be protected. This will help ensure that the lamp arrives at its destination safely and without any damage.
Floor lamp bases made of fragile materials should be wrapped in air-filled plastic wrap and shipped accordingly. This will help protect the base from breaking during transport. If the base isn’t made of a fragile material, you should be fine just transporting it as is. Be careful though not to rest anything heavy on the base in the truck.
To pack a lamp base, place the lamp in the box upright and fill in the box around it with packing peanuts or furniture pads. Seal the box with packing tape and be sure to label it “this end up” and “fragile.”
The wrapping around the lampshade is there to protect it from being damaged or soiled before it is sold. soiled before it is sold.
